Think board games are irrellevant in an age of HD console
blockbusters? Think again. Good gaming is nothing without the basics –
and that means good gameplay.
As
part of the London
Games
Festival 2010,
GameCamp returns with an event that will change the way you think about
the games you love. BoardGameCamp is a day of crossover discussions, play and
workshops that delve into the very heart of what makes a game good.
Behind the pixel shading, before the polygon count, underneath the
cutscenes and the particle effects, good games begin with good game
design. The first person to carve two lumps of bone into dice was
inspired by the same principles that animate our first-person shooters
and keep us coming back to our Facebook games. BoardGameCamp is a
day to explore the ancient art of game design in all its forms.
BoardGameCamp welcomes game designers, players, artists,
critics and experts from all sides of the gaming community.
Play
Come try something new. BoardGameCamp is about
playing games, not just talking about them. We'll have a library of
classic board games for you
to explore and play with, from well-worn table
fillers to little-seen exotics. Bring your
own, and share them with new friends who are just as game-obsessed as you are. Be intrigued
and
inspired by new kinds of gameplay.
Connect
You
know games better than we do. As well as playing games, come talk about them and learn
something new. Meet
other gamers, designers, artists and critics. BoardGameCamp's discussions will run as an unconference,
modelled on the BarCamp series of developer events. That means there
aren't any spectators, only participants . . . find out more!
Build
For the adventurous,
we'll have game-building materials
available for a one-day game-creation
competition. Find teammates
on-site, or bring a team ready-made. More details soon, including format, and prizes, on our homepage.
Tickets include breakfast (for the keeners!) lunch, and intensive caffienation.
